Fermi arcs and surface criticality in dirty Dirac materials

چکیده
We study the effects of disorder on semi-infinite Weyl and Dirac semimetals where presence a boundary leads to formation either Fermi arcs/rays or surface states. Using local version self-consistent Born approximation, we calculate profile density states group velocity. This allows us explore full phase diagram as function conditions strength. While in all cases recover sharp criticality bulk, unveil critical behavior at semimetals, which is smoothed out by arcs semimetals.

Are the surface Fermi arcs in Dirac semimetals topologically protected?
Motivated by recent experiments probing anomalous surface states of Dirac semimetals (DSMs) Na3Bi and Cd3As2, we raise the question posed in the title. We find that, in marked contrast to Weyl semimetals, the gapless surface states of DSMs are not topologically protected in general, except on time-reversal-invariant planes of surface Brillouin zone. We first demonstrate this finding in a minima...
متن کاملQuantum oscillations from surface Fermi arcs in Weyl and Dirac semimetals.
In a magnetic field, electrons in metals repeatedly traverse closed magnetic orbits around the Fermi surface. The resulting oscillations in the density of states enable powerful experimental techniques for measuring a metal's Fermi surface structure. On the other hand, the surface states of Weyl semimetals consist of disjoint, open Fermi arcs raising the question of whether they can be observed...
متن کاملTwo energy gaps and Fermi-surface "arcs" in NbSe2.
Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we report on the direct observation of the energy gap in 2H-NbSe2 caused by the charge-density waves (CDW). The gap opens in the regions of the momentum space connected by the CDW vectors, which implies a nesting mechanism of CDW formation. In remarkable analogy with the pseudogap in cuprates, the detected energy gap also exists in the normal sta...
متن کاملFermi Arcs vs. Fermi Pockets in Electron-doped Perovskite Iridates
We report on an angle resolved photoemission (ARPES) study of bulk electron-doped perovskite iridate, (Sr(1-x)La(x))3Ir2O7. Fermi surface pockets are observed with a total electron count in keeping with that expected from La substitution. Depending on the energy and polarization of the incident photons, these pockets show up in the form of disconnected "Fermi arcs", reminiscent of those reporte...
